She began her professional acting career at the Margo Jones Theatre and gained national attention for her role as Peter Boyleโ€™s mousy wife in the film โ€œJoeโ€ in 1970. Callan has had a diverse career spanning film, television, and theater, with notable roles including Martha Kent in the TV series โ€œLois & Clark: The New Adventures of Supermanโ€ and Elizabeth in the Christian drama โ€œThe Chosen.โ€ She has also appeared in films such as โ€œAmerican Gigoloโ€ (1980) and โ€œKnives Outโ€ (2019). Callan has authored several books on the entertainment industry and received her acting training at HB Studio in New York City. She was married to author James Ruskin Callan and they have three children.
