Shaaban Abdel Rahim
March 15, 1957 (67 years old) in Cairo, Egypt
Shaâban was born in al-âAssal, an area in al-Shurabiyah. He worked with his father on laundry by day while singing at weddings by night. He realized fame by singing to Ahmed Helmyâs âAtgawiz âAydahâ. He also became well known for singing songs that had a political air, songs such as âBakrah Israelâ (âI Hate Israelâ) which caused significant clamor. Shaâban also worked on several musical plays and on series such as âSamhooni Makansh Asdeeâ (âForgive Me, I Did not Mean toâ). He also sang on the film ââAfareet al-Asfaltâ (âSpirits of the Asphaltâ).
